Volunteers

Still Waters Adult Day Center depends on many volunteers to help carry out our mission to guests and their caregivers. These generous people come from the Castleton United Methodist Church and Eastgate Christian Church families as well as the larger Indianapolis community. We have three types of volunteers, all of whom are very important members of the Still Waters family.

Center volunteers: these volunteers provide assistance to the center staff, helping with duties that could otherwise require additional staff. Examples of center volunteers are lunch pick-up & delivery, kitchen helpers, and receptionist/hospitality. Program volunteers receive training in the appropriate areas and are asked to commit 2-4 hours per month to the Center on a regular basis.

Activity volunteers: these volunteers help lead activities at the center
Activity volunteers include musicians, pet visitors, manicure helpers, bingo callers, or Bible study leaders. These volunteers are scheduled according to their availability and the activities schedule. We expect activity volunteers to demonstrate some knowledge or expertise in the area they lead.

Companion volunteers: these volunteers who visit one-on-one with a guest. We attempt to match volunteers and guests who share a hobby, interest, or life experience for the purpose of socialization. Companion volunteers are asked to commit at least 1-2 hours a month to visiting with their guest. Their only requirement is a warm heart and good listening skills.

All our volunteers are asked to go through a one-hour orientation program in the areas of center policies and procedures, Health department regulations (kitchen helpers only), confidentiality, and receive basic training on how to relate to persons with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. We reserve the right to require a TB test and a criminal background check.

Please contact Amy Hogan, Assistant Director amy@stillwatersadc.org if you would like more information on volunteering at either location of Still Waters Adult Day Center.
